Servicing your boiler is essential if you want your system to work properly and last a long time. However, having an engineer carry out the service takes time out of your day and you might be wondering whether you need to request time off work.

In this article, we will be sharing how long a boiler service takes when carried out by our specialist boiler engineers at City Warmth.

How Long Does it Take to Service a Boiler?

At City Warmth, we service boilers from a wide range of manufacturers, including Baxi boilers, Viessmann boilers, Main boilers, Potterton boilers, Worcester Bosch boilers and Vaillant boilers. There are two types of boiler service we provide. So, before we tell you how long a service takes, you first need to decide what type of boiler service you are looking for.

  1. An Interim Boiler Service
  2. The first type of service we offer is called an Interim Boiler Service. Sometimes, this is referred to as a standard boiler service. It involves running boiler health checks, fixing any issues with your system, and providing a report.
  3. How Long Does an Interim Boiler Service Take?
  4. An interim boiler service, carried out by our specialist engineers, takes no more than 45 minutes. Our team has boiler servicing down to an art. They will ensure your boiler is fully checked over and that any issues are professionally fixed without taking up too much of your time.
  5. A Full Strip Down Boiler Service
  6. The second boiler service we offer is far more detailed and, as such, takes a little longer. A full strip down boiler service lets our engineers carry out thorough checks on your boiler system and make any repairs that are needed.
  7. A full strip down boiler service is something we recommend to customers having their boiler serviced for the very first time. You should also opt for a full strip down service if your boiler hasn’t been serviced for the last three years or more.
  8. How Long Does a Full Strip Down Boiler Service Take?
  9. As a full strip down service is far more detailed than an interim service, you should expect our engineer to be at your property for 1-2 hours. This will ensure they can carry out all required checks and provide any necessary repairs.

We Provide Full Boiler Service Reports

Whether you choose our interim boiler service or the full strip down service, we always provide a detailed report that explains our work. The report will include information such as the type of service we performed, when the service was carried out, a list of mandatory safety checks, as well as any other work, such as repairs, that were completed.

If you have any questions about the report, please do not hesitate to ask us. Our friendly team would be happy to clarify any points you’re unsure about.

Why Do I Need a Boiler Service?

Having your boiler serviced is not a legal requirement. However, there are many ways a boiler service benefits you. These include:

  • A Boiler that Works Safely and Efficiently
  • A professional boiler service carried out by gas safe certified engineers will ensure your boiler is working safely and efficiently. It will also highlight any safety concerns, faults, or repairs that need to be addressed.
  • Having your boiler professionally checked will give you peace of mind that it’s working properly and will provide you with heating and hot water when you need it.
  • Lower Energy Bills
  • A boiler that is regularly serviced will save you money on your energy bills. In fact, according to the Energy Saving Trust, a new or regularly serviced boiler could save you up to £580 per year! This is because a boiler will work more efficiently when the system is regularly checked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Spotting Problems Early
  • Having your boiler serviced regularly is also helpful for spotting problems before they escalate. For example, if your boiler is leaking it’s better to catch the issue early before the problem escalates into something far more expensive, such as water damage. Spotting problems early is a great way to save stress and money on more extensive future repairs.

What Happens During a Boiler Service?

The kind of checks our boiler engineers carry out will depend on the type of boiler service you have chosen. However, the following provides an overview of what you can expect to happen during your boiler service:

  • Visual Inspection
  • Our engineers will visually inspect your boiler for any leaks, corrosion, or errors. A visual inspection helps ensure your boiler meets current safety and standard requirements.
  • Flue Check
  • Your boiler flue must be clear of debris or obstructions to work safely and effectively. Our engineers will check the state of the flue and ensure there are no issues.
  • Gas Pressure Check
  • Our engineers will check that your boiler is functioning correctly and at the correct gas pressure.
  • Firing Up
  • Our engineers will fire up your boiler to check whether there are any working faults with the system that need attention.

There are, of course, numerous other checks our boiler engineers will carry out on your system. For a full breakdown of what’s involved, check out our boiler servicing process in more detail.
